About Us
Founded as a Credit Draper in 1945, converting to home-collected small cash loans in the early 1980's.
Company History
The company was founded in 1945 by Martin Leo Murphy when he started selling pit socks out of a suitcase around the local
pit villages, initially around Leasingthorne.
From this a shop front was established in the front of the home at
9 West View, Shildon, selling a whole range of clothes, shoes, hats, suits and carpets on credit to mention a few. Joined
in the business by Barry Murphy this business thrived up until the early 1980's and the downturn in the economy and customers
increasing preference for selecting their own goods.
The loan business was established in the early to mid 1980's
and eventually completely took over, with the shop being sold in the mid 1980's.
Martin Murphy retired fully
in about 1976 and the business was run by Barry Murphy until 2008 when it was taken over by his son Adrian Murphy.
With offices established in Shildon Business Centre, the current harsh economic times mean that the business continues to
offer a valuable and competitive service to the people of Shildon and the surrounding towns and villages.
